Elderly Care

Based in Lincoln and serving people across the East Midlands, United Health has been providing a wide range of care services for over fifteen years. Currently, these  include care homes for older people, residential children’s services, and educational services for children with emotional and behavioural needs.

The aim of United Health is to be recognised as a premium provider of quality facilities, services, care and support. We always want to be aware of and open to new ideas and methods, and to develop our resources to meet the increasing demands of, what will hopefully become, a post pandemic society. We constantly review the performance and standards of all our services, to ensure we continually deliver the best care and support we can.

Our approach to delivery is consistent, no matter what type of service we provide. We believe all the help and support we give should be tailored to the particular needs of a resident or service user. We take time to understand an individual’s care requirements, wishes and choices. We also get to know their personalities, their likes and dislikes. Only in this way can we deliver the very best care possible.

Of course, this doesn’t happen by chance. Supporting our vision, and delivering our services, are a number of hugely dedicated and highly trained staff teams. Their professionalism is complemented by empathy, compassion and a determination to provide all our service users with the opportunity to enjoy life to the best of their ability. In order to maintain this high quality approach we conduct regular audits, staff training, communication reviews and appraisals, so that each member of our team is equipped to deliver the care that everyone accessing our services deserves.

When delivering care and support we believe in doing more than the minimum required. We recognise the importance of everyone who uses our services; their opinions and comments are important to us. We constantly ask for feedback so that we can ensure that we always meet their expectations.

We hope this website provides you with useful information and helps you in making the right choices for your family and loved ones. If you need further information please do not hesitate to contact us using the details provided on the Contact Us page.

We hope we can provide you with the care you need so that you and your family can live the life you want.

Our Commitment

At United Health, we believe that it’s the simple things that make the difference to our residents, which is why we aim to:

  • Keep you warm and safe
  • Offer you care that is designed for you – not someone else
  • Foster a strong community feel within the home
  • Provide you with a friendly environment in which to enjoy life
  • Keep you well fed with lovely home cooking
  • Keep you entertained with a full range of activities for you to enjoy
  • Make your families feel a vital and important part of our communities

If living at home is becoming difficult, or loneliness is a feature of your life and you are finding it upsetting to manage on your own, then Residential care may be something for you to consider. You might only need minimal assistance, but the support and community feeling of one of our homes may make the difference between having to struggle on with your daily routine, or looking forward to each day with the knowledge that life in older age can be happy, interesting and fulfilling.

United Health’s approach to providing residential care is to try and improve the quality of life of all our residents, regardless of the level of care that someone may require. Our two homes aim to look after everyone in a warm, compassionate, safe and friendly environment. We also want our residents to feel that they are part of wider communities, embracing fellow residents, staff, family and friends.

Our homes strive to offer the very best care for your loved one. However elderly care for us is about more than simply caring for someone. It is also about enriching people’s lives at a time when they imagined that might not be easily achieved.

Of course, this doesn’t happen by chance. Providing quality of life for our residents needs good people, and at United Health we have experienced, well-trained and dedicated staff teams who are always ready to go that little bit further to help.

It might be having the time to stop for a chat or a cup of coffee, or fulfilling a special request, or just making someone feel loved and respected; whatever is needed to make sure that every resident feels thoroughly at home.

We believe giving great care is all about developing good relationships. The staff in our homes are not only chosen for their professionalism but also their understanding and compassion. Through this they create strong and lasting friendships with both residents and their families. This is one of the key reasons why our homes feel like communities where the whole family is respected and looked after.

Whether you are looking for a long-term stay, respite or perhaps just a period of convalescence to help a loved one get back on their feet, our homes are able to help you.

We can offer you a number of different care options and assist you with advice as to what would best suit your particular needs.

United Children’s Services provides Therapeutic Care and Education to children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. We have five registered homes capable of taking over twenty three placements between them.

In all our homes we aim to offer a nurturing environment with care and support delivered by staff who combine compassion with experience and professionalism, in order to achieve the best outcomes for young people.

Individual therapeutic work and staff consultation is carried out by employed qualified therapists. Family therapeutic work can be provided on request as well as individual therapeutic sessions for young people.

We have established links with a number of placing authorities and work closely with other agencies, including CAMHS, LSCB, YOS and the Police to ensure consistency in the individual care packages provided. Referrals and admissions will be considered for emergency and long-term placements in accordance with the needs of young people and their individual placement plans.

We link our therapeutic care approach to offering education for all the young people in our care. These will be children who have found it difficult to achieve their full potential in the mainstream sector.

Through the care and support we give in our homes we are very aware of the range of issues that causes many young people to become disaffected with mainstream schooling. The education environment and the curriculum are both highly structured. Our focus is to provide clear opportunities to succeed and the full national curriculum is offered up to GCSE level.

We have high expectations for academic attainment, and skills development for behavioural management, socialisation, emotional resilience and independence.

THERAPY

Our Young People are offered a range of therapeutic possibilities. Our service is unique in offering individual psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapies to young people in care, in peaceful purpose-built surroundings.

We aim to

  • Assess and provide the best therapeutic treatment for the individual child
  • Offer a safe, quiet and uninterrupted space for each child
  • To contain and understand each child’s life experiences

We want to help each child:

  • Make sense of their feelings
  • Develop healthier attachments
  • Develop new ways of relating

Our therapeutic approach offers insights into difficulties children might experience settling into education, forming friendships, and engaging with those around them.

An important role of the therapists is to support those adults who have the wellbeing of the child in mind. We meet with the child’s keyworkers and attend care team meetings regularly. Each therapist offers consultations to all homes and educational settings to convey their psychodynamic understanding of the child, with the aim of creating more harmonious, informed relationships.

Education Services

Our schools

Oakwood Community School

Oakwood School strives to offer the best possible care and education for its pupils. We pride ourselves on being creative and innovative and never settling for anything less than excellence. We endeavour to create a community where intimacy, warmth and trust is nurtured to provide a level of care that enables children to feel safe and respected, leading to long-term learning achievement.

We offer education for pupils with emotional and behavioural difficulties who have found it difficult to achieve their full potential in the mainstream sector.

We aim to provide the best treatment for each individual child and the best support for significant adults who have the child in mind. We place the child and the adult at the centre of our thinking

Through the care and support we give in our Children’s Homes we are very aware of the range of issues that cause many young people to become disaffected with mainstream schooling. We work hard to ensure that we can reignite an enthusiasm for learning amongst all our pupils so that they can ultimately reintegrate into mainstream provision.

The education environment and the curriculum are both highly structured. Our focus is to provide clear opportunities to succeed and the full national curriculum is offered up to GCSE level. We offer Education as part of a package of services offered in conjunction with Barford Children’s Services that includes both care and therapy. We have high expectations for academic attainment, and skills development for behavioural management, socialisation, emotional resilience and independence.

Creating good relationships is the key to achieving our success, and mutual respect between staff and pupils is something that grounds everything we do. Complementing this are exciting and appropriate curricula that give opportunities for academic progression, as well as vocational learning.

We do not achieve all this alone. We work closely with other agencies and schools as well as parents, to achieve communities where learning and life are the best they can possibly be.
