CONGRATULATIONS BEECH TREES

Our Beech Trees home had its latest OFSTED inspection recently – always a nervous time for staff but they needn’t have worried as the home received a great report. Here is a sample of what the report contained:

“This home was judged good at the last full inspection.
At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has improved effectiveness. Children are making good progress as a result of the consistent care and support that staff provide. A child’s social worker said: ‘The staff are doing a great job. I am very happy with the way they are looking after him.’

“The home provides a nurturing and child-focused base from which children begin to settle, form positive attachments and
start to address their previous experiences. One child said: ‘I like it here. It’s a nice house, the food is nice and I like the staff.’ Children are able to identify the progress they have made. For example, one child said: ‘My anger is not as bad. I now talk about my problems. I’ve also got better with my school work.’ “

Congratulations to Luke and all his staff who work really hard to give the young people we support the very best care possible.

BARFORD – UPDATING STAFF AWARENESS

Our staff who support and work with young people have to take on a huge amount of information in order for them to do their jobs to the highest level. Each week a new set of guidelines or practices may be published that they have to understand and act upon.

Recently has been no exception. Updated Child Protection Procedures have recently come through from Leicestershire County Council and Rutland. As with all such updates these are immediately shared with staff.

Our staff’ commitment to the young people in their care is to make sure that are always up to date with new guidelines affecting our workplaces. Barford recognises the hard work this requires, and wants to assure all staff that if they need help with new information we will give them all the assistance we can.

COMMITTED TO STAFF DEVELOPMENT

At Barford we think it’s vitally important that all our staff have the opportunity to develop in their careers.

To ensure this continues to be the case, this week all our new staff are completing their training in Positive Behaviour Support. This enables them to work effectively with young people, ensuring that they are able to respond fully to their needs.

It should be noticed it is not just new staff who are in training mode, our Managers are also involved in a range of professional development.

THE IMPORTANCE OFTHE ICHA

For all parts of the Care industry, representative bodies play a hugely important role. This is certainly true in Children’s Services.

The Independent Children’s Homes Association (ICHA) is the voice of independent providers of child care services and resources for children and young people. They are a Not for Profit association representing professionals who work in the independent sector.

They provide advice and guidance to members across a number of different issues and act as an important voice for the sector when communicating with local authorities and central government.

They help develop clear systems to regularly share information with Members which draws attention to key documentation and legislative changes. They also collate and analyse statistical information with a view to identifying trends and concerns in the market place that will inform members and may be of value in presenting and supporting our concerns to outside bodies.

With a rapidly increasing membership they now have over 180 member organisations, representing over 1000 homes and over 3500 beds. As members ourselves we know the importance of the work that they do and hope they continue to inform and represent the sector of the foreseeable future.
