Set in its own grounds, Woodland Retreat is a comfortable and well-equipped home that offers accommodation for up to six young people, who have been assessed as presenting, emotional, behavioural or educational difficulties. Characterised by large open spaces, the house and its gardens offer a nurturing environment for young people, as well as a homely living space that they may have lacked prior to coming to us.
The ethos and atmosphere of the home encourages personal growth. We strive to offer a caring and stimulating environment that enables young people to reach their potential, build on their strengths and celebrate their individual achievements.
We believe it is important to provide a safe environment, free from abuse in its many forms. We actively promote respect and dignity for everyone regardless of their race, gender, cultural background or ability.
All the home’s bedrooms are individualised to suit personal likes and dislikes. There are dedicated young people’s areas, as well as a quiet area to encourage more contemplative periods. There are good sized communal areas to help deliver a positive experience of group living. The home also benefits from excellent gardens and green space.
Educational development is an important part of helping to prepare young people for eventual reintegration into the wider community. We create individual education packages for each young person, which both aid the reparative process and offer young people the chance to maximise their future life choices.
Sitting alongside an educational focus is the availability of a wide choice of activities for each young person; either based in the home or in the wider local community.
Preparing young people for independence is our ultimate aim. However, we don’t do this alone. We develop an honest and open working partnership with each young person and in cooperation with other agencies we provide a continuity and consistency of care that benefits the young person as a whole.
Achieving this consistency does not happen by chance. Our staff team have all undertaken training across many aspects of the care of young people including safeguarding, child protection, behaviour management, first aid, ADHD and Autism, and they all undertake the Diploma Level 3 in Caring for Children and Young People.
Everyone at the home combines professional expertise with compassion and a genuine desire to achieve the very best outcomes for the young people who come to live with us.
