Hydrotherapy
Our Hydrotherapy Pool is a unique, purpose-built facility for all members of the community. With adapted hoisting facilities in all changing rooms and the pool itself, we have facilities to cater for everyone.
Our Hydrotherapy service offers a unique stimulus for our learning disability residents as well others with similar disabilities in the community. It is often used by local authorities as a therapeutic facility. Additionally, the pool is available for hire by private companies and we currently have significant usage through organisations that help to teach babies to swim.
The water is maintained at 34°C (as recommended by the hydrotherapy association of chartered physio therapists). The chlorine levels are 15-25 ppm, pH levels are 7.2-7.4, and the humidity levels are monitored for comfort. All sessions are supervised by a qualified lifeguard/ pool attendant.
The size of the pool is 5m x 4.5m with an overall depth of 1.2m. There are four shower areas with wheelchair access and three showers with overhead tracking. There are also able and disabled toilets. Overshoes are provided and must be worn near the pool area by members of the pubic and carers.
Currently just one of our homes (based in Sheffield) specialising in the care of people with learning disabilities, has a Hydrotherapy pool attached, but it is hoped that we will shortly be opening a second pool in the Derbyshire market town of Ilkeston.
