Remembrance Day honours those who sacrificed everything for our freedoms. Today we pay particular tribute to the men and women of the Second World War generation, and to those of today’s, who have served and sacrificed to defend our country. Many of our residents will have lived through the war or had relatives who possibly lost their lives during conflict. Remembering them today will be particularly poignant as it takes place against the backdrop of another, albeit different, worldwide crisis. We hope that you will join with us at 11am and perform the simple act of respect by observing two minutes slience.
Our internal mental batteries have all taken a bit of extra load over the last 8 months, and it’s no wonder that many of us have struggled with anxiety and other mental health issues during this time. Here is a useful graphic that might help you check your own mental heath in a simple and constructive way. Of course many of you will have been caring for others during this period, but it’s also important to look after yourselves!
Halloween may look a bit different this year, but we couldn’t let the day pass without a spooky themed joke..What is a ghost’s favourite party game? Hide-and-shriek.
Have a great day everyone!

Here are some simple yet fab tips for keeping cool at night in the heatwave.
• Preparation is key, so keep blinds shut during the day/evening to block out sunlight and keep your room as cool as possible.
• Cool your body temperature down with a cold shower before bed to feel more refreshed.
• Alternatively, you can run your wrists under cool water to also help drop your temperature before going to sleep.
• Make sure you keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Dehydration is a common cause of sleepless nights, so keep a glass of cold water by your bed in case you wake up hot and thirsty.
All our homes will be receiving lots of messages and best wishes today as we celebrate Father’s Day. We will be making sure that all the dads we are caring for have an extra special day and are spoilt rotten! How will you be celebrating your Dad’s special day?
Many of our residents were saddened today to hear of the death of Dame Vera Lynn. Whilst she undoubtedly lived an amazing and long life which deserves to be celebrated it is always sad when a national icon passes.
For so many of our residents, across all our homes, she will be remembered as someone who was a shining light during a time of crisis. She became the nation’s sweetheart over three-quarters of a century ago during the Second World War and has remained in many people’s hearts ever since.
Today our residents would like to pay tribute to her and to thank her for all she has done for their spirits over many years, giving not only enjoyment but also hope to so many.
Following last weeks heartfelt and touching applause that rang out across the country United Health are again proud to join in the nationwide campaign to get people to clap for everyone who is working so hard to keep us healthy; doctors, nurses; GPs; Pharmacists, Care Home staff, home carers and EVERYONE related at the front line.
Let us all show how grateful we still are for their hard work and dedication at 8pm tonight!
